Farewell to former Director Charles ffrench-Constant

31 March 2021

Professor Charles ffrench-Constant is saying farewell after 14 years at the University of Edinburgh, including five years as Director of CRM.

Charles joined the University in 2007 and succeeded Ian Wilmut as Director of CRM in 2011, where he oversaw the centre’s move into its new building. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Institute for Regeneration and Repair. He has most recently held the position as of Dean of Research for the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

Over the years, Charles’ research has made a significant contribution to understanding how myelin is formed in response to injury. This work is important for the development of new treatments for multiple sclerosis. He is now taking on the role as Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia.

We thank Charles for the huge contribution he has made to CRM and the wider University and wish him all the very best for the future.
