Background

Sio Pan Leong is a Ph.D. candidate and tutor of an undergraduate course on 19th- and 20th-century music history at the University of Edinburgh. He received a full scholarship for his study of the B.F.A. Music at the National Taiwan University of Arts, and partial funding for his M.Mus. Musicology at the University of Edinburgh. He is interested in the concept of dreams as it pertains to the music of the Austro-German, Romantic tradition. His master’s dissertation explores the reflection of Taoist dream philosophy on the notion of life and death in Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde; while his PhD project, funded by the Macau government, focuses on the aesthetic and psychoanalytic investigation of Schubert’s ‘dreamlike’ music.
