Background

Before joining the English Literature department in 2004, Simon taught English at Manchester Metropolitan University. He took his first degree in Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham before moving to Cardiff University to complete an MA in Critical and Cultural Theory and a PhD on time and aesthetics in English Romantic poetry, German Idealist philosophy and contemporary critical theory.

Research summary

Simon’s current research interests focus on the relationship between science, literature and society from the Scientific Revolution of the seventeenth century to the present; science fiction; and the literature, culture and politics of the Restoration period. In the past, he has also worked on Romanticism, continental philosophy, literary theory, postmodernism, and drama and theatre.  He would be happy to discuss potential projects with research students wishing to work in these areas.
