Sarah Ford-Hutchinson

Head of SRS Communications

Background

Sarah is a senior communications professional with a deep interest in sustainability and the natural world.

She leads and coordinates the design and delivery of SRS strategic communications campaigns, projects and plans which support the successful delivery of the University’s climate and sustainability objectives.

Working closely with the University's central Communications and Marketing department, she also leads on the development and delivery of a whole-institution narrative for sustainability encompassing our research, teaching and learning, operations, investments and partnerships.

Sarah graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2011 with an MA in Social Anthropology and spent four years working for the BBC as a documentary film-maker & researcher. After becoming interested in how climate change science and sustainability is communicated to the general public, she joined our department in 2015 as a Communications Coordinator and initially produced a series of short videos on climate change research.

In 2018 Sarah became our Communication Manager, and in 2022 became our Head of SRS Communications. Her skill set includes strategic communications design, corporate and crisis communications, expertise in sustainability communications, as well as project management and end-to-end video production.

Research summary

Sarah leads on the University's overall climate & sustainability narrative and has an excellent working knowledge of climate-positive activity in research, teaching, University operations and partnerships.
