Rachael Barton

SRS Projects Coordinator

Background

Rachael joined the University in 2018 and leads on a range of behaviour change and embedding projects. Her key focus centres on coordinating and delivering the SRS Sustainability Awards programme (including the Lab Awards, Working from Home Awards and Changemaker Awards) and the Sustainability Framework.

In addition to her core role, Rachael helps deliver Carbon Literacy Training to staff and students, and offers work-based supervision for student projects. In 2021, she provided facilitation support to the University's COP26 working group, helping to coordinate the University's contribution to the climate conference. 

Her background: After completing an undergraduate degree in Cell Biology, Rachael graduated with an MSc in Ecosystem Services from the University in 2014, combining interests in plant science, food security and environmental protection. Her interest in engagement was sparked while volunteering with the Waste Wise Volunteers, leading to energy and recycling focused public engagement roles within Changeworks. Prior to joining the SRS team Rachael was responsible for delivering a wide range of sustainability behaviour change projects at Transition Heriot-Watt.
