Dr Philip Riches

Background

Dr Riches graduated from Edinburgh University in 1999 with degrees in medicine and immunology. He specialised in rheumatology working with Professor Ralston as Clinical Lecturer, Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine Research Fellow, and Lorna Smith Fellow.

Dr Riches took up his current position as consultant rheumatologist in 2010 with sub-specialty interests in gout and osteoporosis. He is specialty Training Programme Director, and the undergraduate lead for Rheumatology in Edinburgh. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer and has published on the genetics of gout and Paget’s disease as well as describing the syndrome of osteoporosis caused by osteoprotegerin antibodies published in the New England Journal of Medicine. For his work he has received the AMGEN ECTS Bone Biology Fellowship, the Royal College of Physician’s Croom Lectureship, and an Innovation award from the British Society of Rheumatology.
