Background

Kareen studied Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Strathclyde before becoming a trainee Biomedical Scientist (BMS) in the diagnostic microbiology laboratory of the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.  Kareen completed training and became a HCPC registered Specialist BMS in 2006.  Whilst working for the NHS she studied part-time at the University of Westminster for a PG Cert in Biomedical Science and later an MSc in Medical Microbiology.  After spending a year travelling around the world she returned to Scotland.  She worked in a variety of smaller NHS diagnostic microbiology laboratories before leaving the NHS to attend the University of Glasgow where she graduated with a PhD in 2016.  Kareen then returned to the NHS (working at both the GRI and QEUH) before joining the Roslin Institute in March 2019.  Kareen is also a STEM Ambassador.
