Background
I am currently working in the Roslin Institute as core scientist in Dr David Collie’s research group. We are part of the larger Gene Therapy Group with research interests in the causes and treatments of lung disease. Our current research focus is on developing strategies to mitigate the risk of radiation-induced lung injury. We have further interests in how microbial communities develop within the healthy lung and the changes caused by chronic infection. These interests complement our involvement within the UK Cystic Fibrosis Gene Therapy Consortium in developing lung-directed gene therapy. My previous laboratory experience was in helminthology research, where I was involved in developing a serodiagnostic assay for screening herds of cattle for cysticercosis infection. I also worked on research into mast cells and their involvement in the expulsion of nematodes from the gut.
