John Pierce (PhD student)

Thesis title: Outdoor learning in Ireland

Background

John is a lecturer in Outdoor Education in the Institute of Technology, Tralee in the southwest of Ireland where he works on a number of different degree programmes including Health & Leisure, Wildlife Biology and Outdoor Learning. He has worked in the outdoors for well over 10 years now and holds instructor qualifications in a number of outdoor sports. Most of his outdoor work these days is on all levels of skills and instructor courses and assessments for river and sea kayaking. John has a BA in Outdoor Education and is an APIOL holder.

He is a part time PhD student with an interest in the processes of outdoor education in Irish outdoor centres. When not working or studying John can be found trying to stay upright on his waveski!
