Background

I build partnerships because I believe the world's grand challenges cannot be solved in isolation.

Over many years I have helped set up a wide range of transformative partnerships that enable us to collectively make a more positive impact on the world. These range from Global Academy responses to grand challenges, a biomedical research centre in China, and a new global data institute that will grapple with the darkest corners of the internet to protect kids from harm.

I have a strong interest in opening access to higher education (World Access to Higher Education day co-founder), climate conscious partnerships (blog), and I am curious about the future of education (Future.Uni Lab think tank steering group).

Prior to my current role, in 2020-21 I was seconded for 18 months to the role of Director for Innovation & Uptake at End Violence Lab - a collaboration between the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children and The University of Edinburgh.

Formerly, Head of Global Projects in Edinburgh Global at The University of Edinburgh and 2013 to 2015, and before that, Head of the Global Academies Directorate at the University of Edinburgh – a role that involved facilitating, coordinating and implementing interdisciplinary responses to global challenges in health, development, justice and environment.

Previously I project managed the implementation phase of Ecosystems Services for Poverty Alleviation - a programme jointly funded by DFID, NERC and ESRC; and coordinated the implementation of a portfolio of online masters in the University of Edinburgh College of Medicine and Vet Medicine.

Before joining the University of Edinburgh, jobs included project manager for a rural health NGO in Andhra Pradesh, India; and various roles in TV commercial production in Spain.

In 2011 I was awarded the Principal’s Medal for Outstanding Service in recognition of the role in developing distance education in health, contribution to capacity-building educational activities in developing countries, and involvement in establishing the University’s Global Academies. In 2013 I founded TEDxUniversityofEdinburgh.

I holds a Masters in Business Administration from University of Edinburgh; a MSc in Applied Computing from Dundee University; and a BSc Environmental Studies from Newcastle Polytechnic.
