Background

After her BSc in Biological Sciences, Valentina specialised in Molecular Biology (MSc) at the University of Catania (Italy) and completed her training in Pharmacological Chemistry at the University of Barcelona (Spain). She was awarded her PhD in Neuroinformatics and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh while working on her Postdoctoral project in Applied Neuroscience and as an R&D scientist at Brainwave Discovery Ltd.

Dr Ferlito has been teaching at the University of Edinburgh Medical School for the past five years, while continuing her professional development to become a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, focusing on Pedagogy and Digital Education.

Dr Ferlito joined the pain Management Team in October 2019. Since then, she combines her eclectic experience in research and academic teaching expertise to improve the learning environment, student engagement and inclusion, and to develop innovative learning material and assessment methods within the MSc Programme in Clinical Management of Pain.

Undergraduate teaching

Dr Ferlito works as a Teaching Assistant (Tutor and Facilitator) at the Biomedical Teaching Organisation, where she teaches different undergraduate courses for Biomedical, Neuroscience, Physiology and Medical foundation years' students. 

Postgraduate teaching

Dr Ferlito is a Teaching Fellow at the online MSc  Programme in Clinical Management of Pain, where she covers the roles of Personal Tutor, Lecturer, and Course Organiser for different postgraduate courses.
