Dr Samuel Hoare (MB BCh BAO MPH FAFPHM)

Teaching Fellow, Master of Public Health (online and on campus)

Background

I am a medical doctor and public health specialist with over 15 years of experience in public health teaching, practice, and research. I hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics, a Master of Public Health and am a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

I have taught public health at leading international Universities in the UK and Australia. I thoroughly enjoy and get great satisfaction from teaching public health. I firmly believe in the importance of public health education in developing the future public health workforce to address the biggest health challenges facing populations globally.

During my career I have worked across different health systems in a diverse range of organisational settings and countries. This includes hospitals, community health services, government, universities, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Medecins San Frontieres (MSF)/Doctors Without Borders including in complex humanitarian emergencies in Sierra Leone, Uganda, Turkey, and Afghanistan.  I use examples of my work experience to link real life public issues and programs to theoretical content covered in courses I teach. This aspect of my teaching has always been well received by students.  Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to receive a nomination in the Students’ Association’s student-led Teaching Awards 2023, in the category Teacher of the Year.

I joined the Master of Public Health online programme as a Teaching Fellow in 2023.
