Dr Lorna Thomson

Director, Edinburgh Research Office

Background

I joined the University of Edinburgh in 2017 from King’s College London as Director, Edinburgh Research Office. My background is in chemistry. After a short period as a researcher in organometallic chemistry, I spent time in industry and the charity sector before settling into a career in higher education where I have held roles in local departments and at the centre of the University. My experience of seeing research and research management from a number of different angles gives me a broad perspective to bring to our team within Edinburgh Research Office.

I’m proud to lead such a dedicated, knowledgeable and researcher focused team. My colleagues and I are continuously looking at how best to support the University of Edinburgh's research community across the research lifecycle, particularly in the pursuit of funding. We want to deliver the highest quality professional service we can to ensure the University of Edinburgh’s researchers can focus on their application and project delivery. I personally, and I’m sure my team also, feel genuinely excited and satisfied to play a role in delivering research at the University of Edinburgh.
