Research summary
My research group has a focus on understanding the interactions between the environment and the epigenome, particularly DNA methylation. Our work includes studies aimed at increasing our understanding of how the environment in early life leads to an increased risk of metabolic and neurodevelopmental disease in later life. We were amongst the first to show that these effects can be transmitted across generations through non-genomic mechanisms. We are also involved in studies aimed at understanding how preterm birth leads to long-term effects on neurodevelopment. Finally, we are undertaking studies aimed at delineating the effects of obesity and metabolic dysfunction on DNA methylation.
