Title: How does light exposure impact human physiology, behaviour and cognition beyond vision?
Abstract: Beyond enabling us to see the world in its colourful and moving detail, exposure to light impacts humans profoundly through a non-canonical pathway connecting the retina with the hypothalamus. In the retina, the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) signal information about the intensity of environmental information to the circadian system, thereby affecting the timing of our clock. In this talk, I will discuss the known knowns and the known unknowns regarding the effects of light on human physiology.
