Information about eligibility and the application process

The University of Edinburgh is part of a consortium of ten Higher Education institutions which has been awarded funding from the AHRC  to support postgraduate studentships and training in the Arts and Humanities in Scotland. Under the Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) scheme, the consortium - comprised of the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh, University of Highlands & Islands, St Andrews, Stirling, Strathclyde, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - will consider applications for doctoral studentship awards in the majority of Arts and Humanities subjects. The consortium is organised through the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH).

Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities

Eligibility

Applicants must be students from the UK or EU countries and satisfy the eligibility criteria of the AHRC. Research topics should be based in the subject areas of Philosophy or Linguistics & English Language. These awards are available for PhD candidates only.

Please note that due to funding restrictions from the source, EU applicants will be eligible for tuition fee funding only.

Application process

  1. Applicants are encouraged to make contact with the School as soon as possible to register their interest in this funding opportunity as this will allow the School to track the progress of your application. Please email the School Postgraduate Office to register interest. It is also useful for applicants to contact potential supervisors early in the process to assist in the application process; the School Postgraduate Office can also assist with this.        
  2. Applicants must complete the University of Edinburgh application form for the relevant PhD programme. Once this application has been submitted, applicants will receive email confirmation from the system including their User Name (UUN).  Please make sure that you submit your application by the relevant PhD application deadlines which are earlier than the AHRC deadline. 
  1. Applicants will be asked to complete an additional application through the Scottish Graduate School.   You are not required to complete the Scottish Graduate School application when you submit your PhD application however we advise you to look at the information related to the Scottish Graduate School application so that you are prepared for what is required.

Deadline

Friday 30th November 2018

This is the University of Edinburgh deadline for students applying for this funding source.  Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to submit a full application through the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH).
