Philosophy

Edinburgh women in philosophy

Following the success of previous EWPG Spring workshops, which have respectively focused on the objectification of the women, under-representation of women in philosophy, issues of philosophical methodology, ignorance, underrepresentation and implicit bias and philosophy of education, this year’s topic is philosophy of love, family, and relationships (broadly construed). This issue has become a lively discussion point in philosophy departments and blogs due to the question that has arisen as to how we could understand the metaphysics of love. This workshop would greatly benefit researchers in our department as well as philosophers from underrepresented groups such as women and LGBTQ. We hope this event will contribute to helping raise awareness about philosophical significance of love and how it relates to both philosophical feminism and improving the situation of women and other people from underrepresented group in philosophy departments.

Our confirmed speakers are:

  • Veronique Munoz-Darde (UCL)
  • Carrie Jenkins (University of British Columbia) *Skype Talk*
  • Pilar Lopez Cantero (Manchester)
  • Mayu Koike (University of Edinburgh)

This event is supported by the Eidyn research centre, Scots Philosophical Association  and The School of Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences.
