Psychology lecturer awarded British Academy-Wolfson Fellowship
Aja Murray has been awarded the British Academy/Wolfson Fellowship, an initiative designed to empower early-career researchers who show exceptional talent in research and public engagement
Congratulations to Dr Aja Murray, Lecturer in Psychology, who is one of six outstanding early career researchers to be awarded up to £130,000 each as part of an initiative to promote high-quality research in humanities and social sciences in the UK.
Empowering early career researchers
The three-year fellowships provide the early career academics with time away to focus on their research, as well as funding for public engagement and travel, to ensure their work reaches a wide audience.
It is very exciting to be able to announce funding for some superb early career researchers. The range and quality of research is extraordinary, and there could be no more important moment to support the next generation of researchers.
Research into domestic violence during pregnancy
Domestic violence against women during pregnancy is a common problem, with an estimated 14% of women across the world exposed to physical abuse during pregnancy, 8% to sexual abuse, and 28% to emotional abuse by their partner or ex-partner.
Aja will be researching domestic violence during pregnancy, with the aim of informing prevention and harm reduction strategies.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work on this important topic. Domestic violence during pregnancy has significant negative impacts on both mother and child. More research is needed to help better understand how to prevent it and reduce its harms.
