Psychology hosts Food for Thought in Malawi
The work of the charity MamaLita, which champions quality education in Malawi, will be highlighted at a celebratory event featuring the founder of Mary’s Meals
Psychology at the School of PPLS is hosting an event celebrating MamaLita from 4.30pm on Tuesday 5 June in the Psychology Building, 7 George Square.
University supporters
Professor of Human Cognitive Neuroscience Sergio Della Sala manages the MamaLita project which involves running a school as well as setting up a college in Malawi.
The event is supported by the University’s Principal Peter Mathieson, who will be opening the event, and the Head of CAHSS Dorothy Miell, who will conclude the event.
Access to food and education
Talks from project partners will highlight issues surrounding world hunger and providing quality education in Malawi.
Miriam Brazzelli from the University of Aberdeen will discuss the global issue of child food insecurity, whilst the founder and manager of the MamaLita School in Malawi, Rita Milesi, will share her experience looking after vulnerable children and setting up the School.
Edinburgh’s Clinical Psychologist Corinne Reid will then discuss the power of collaboration involved in setting up the MamaLita project.
Finally, the keynote address from the founder of Mary’s Meals, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, will talk about how Mary’s Meals tackles world hunger.
What’s important to us is the hungry child. When there are hungry children in front of us today, we’re going to feed them, and at the same time we’re going to work on the solution to getting them fed in the long term, creating a global movement of people who believe in this vision.
Malawian music and Mary’s Meals
A light reception with Malawian music will follow the event where you are invited to sample versions of the food offered to the children at the MamaLita School by Mary’s Meals.
