Linguistics Professor and Director of Bilingualism Matters elected as Fellow of the British Academy
Linguistics Professor Antonella Sorace joins the 2020 cohort of elected Fellows of the distinguished British Academy
The School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is proud to announce that Professor Antonella Sorace has been elected as Fellow of the British Academy for her achievements and contributions to the field of linguistics.
I am honoured and delighted to be a Fellow of the British Academy. I look forward to working with the Academy, especially in pursuing my long term interest in public engagement with research.

British Academy – 2020 Fellowship Announcement
Leading authority on multilingualism
Antonella is Professor of Developmental Linguistics and a leading authority on language and bilingualism and language acquisition across the lifespan.
In addition to her work and research at the University, Antonella is also the founding director of Bilingualism Matters, a research and information centre which currently has 27 branches in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, the Middle East, and China.
She was also joint leader for research and dissemination on the EU-funded project ‘Advancing the European Multilingual Experience,’ a 5-year collaborative research project (2014-2019) studying multilingualism in Europe in order to raise awareness of multilingualism among policy makers, health professionals, academics and educators.
Most recently, Antonella presented at WebTalkUNA, a webinar hosted by the United Nations Association of New York (UNA-NY) outlining the main misconceptions and facts about multilingualism over the lifespan, focusing in particular on current research on indigenous minority languages.
