Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Student Experience

Both Nick and Simon were shortlisted for this Award which aims to recognise staff who put student experience at the forefront of their way of working, supporting the needs of students first and foremost.

Nick's nomination

Nick won the award for his impact on Philosophy's undergraduate programme, helping to create several meaningful opportunities for staff and students to interact. This includes running various face-to-face events exchanging information about programmes and listening to students to help them with any issues that they face.

He has also helped break down the barriers between staff and students outside of the classroom through his Philosophy Reading Parties where staff and students spend the weekend hiking, discussing philosophy and playing games.

Simon's nomination

Simon was nominated for redesigning and standardising the way the School of PPLS use the virtual learning environment Blackboard Learn in campus teaching. This has inspired many learning techologists in other Schools to do the same.
