Title: A little bit of this, a little bit of that...: accounting for mass-count distinction in American Sign Language

Abstract: In this talk, I will examine mass-count distinction in American Sign Language (ASL). At first glance, ASL appears to be a language which does not encode such a distinction; however, careful examination reveals the opposite but additional complications arise. The paper addresses issues of quantification, number marking, partitivity, classifiers, and coordination -- all relevant to the ultimate account of the phenomenon.
