Cognitive linguistics seminar
Speaker: Tobias Ungerer (University of Edinburgh)
Title: Network science methods - a potential toolkit for cognitive linguistics?
Abstract: Over the last 20 years, network science has emerged as a unified attempt to study the structure of networks across disciplines, including linguistics. In this talk, I will briefly summarise some core concepts in network science, as well as its previous applications to linguistics. I will then discuss the (limited) extent to which these tools have been employed in cognitive-linguistic research. To conclude, I will raise some open questions about the potential uses of network science methods to study grammatical networks from a cognitive perspective.
