Teaching delivery in semester two, 2020/2021
Information on the teaching experience you will have as an undergraduate student in the School of Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences in semester two, 2020/21
Your safety and the safety of our staff are paramount, and we continue to closely follow Scottish Government guidelines. This page provides more details of what to expect in semester two.
Getting ready for semester two
There is now a delay for all our undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who were due to resume the in-person, on-campus elements of their programme. Learning and teaching will now remain digital until further notice and in the vast majority of cases we expect that to be throughout January and February at least.
For the latest information and guidance about the University’s Semester Two plans:
The safety of students and staff remains paramount. In response to ongoing Scottish Government restrictions, and drawing on the best available teaching and learning evidence and practice, the University will continue with the 'hybrid' approach for all learning, teaching and student support activities for Semester 2. Your Head of Subject Area has sent you an email with more information.
Given physical distancing guidelines, building usage is restricted but we would hope to increase our on-campus provision as and when Covid-19 restrictions and other considerations allow.
The University believes that it is better for students and their overall learning experience to reside in Edinburgh, where it is possible for them to readily access learning materials and resources as well as interact with fellow students in a variety of in-person and digital locations. However we recognise that some students may not be able or willing to do so.
If you decide not to come to Edinburgh as previously planned or decide to return home once here, you must confirm with the relevant Course Organisers for courses you are taking outside PPLS that you can fully engage with your studies from home and, through the delivered digital content, meet all of your core learning outcomes. (It will be possible to meet the learning objectives, and take assessments, for all PPLS courses, whether or not you are in Edinburgh).
If you decide to change your location, you will need to update your details on MyEd.
When considering any change in location, remember to follow the latest Scottish Government Guidance and if you are in the UK on a Tier 4 visa, be sure to speak to the Student Immigration Service to clarify any potential impact on your immigration status.
The University will continue to update the Students website with any key information you will need, whether you are currently carrying out studies at home or are returning to the city. Here you will also be able to find advice and support for students who are self-isolating and our Good Citizens Guide.
