General information about Linguistics and English Language at Edinburgh
- Edinburgh is a world centre for teaching and research in Linguistics and English Language.

We're ranked 4th in the UK and 5th in the world for linguistics (QS World University Rankings by subject 2024).

We're ranked 3rd in the UK and 9th in the world for English language and literature (QS World University Rankings by subject 2024).
- We were one of the first universities to teach Linguistics in Britain, and there are long traditions of work investigating the history and structure of English. We are one of the largest departments in Europe and we teach and research a wide range of areas, from philology all the way through to engineering.
Equality and Diversity
