Background

Andy Finch studied Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge and stayed in Cambridge to do his PhD with Jerry Saklatvala (initially at the Babraham institute and then the group moved to the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology in Hammersmith, London). His PhD research focussed on the signalling pathways activated by interleukin-1 (IL-1).

He then moved to San Francisco to do a postdoc with Gerard Evan at the UCSF Cancer Centre where he studied mechanisms of oncogene cooperation between c-Myc and other oncogenic and tumour suppressive pathways. This led to an interest in ribosome biogenesis and ribosomal stresses.

Returning to the UK, he did a postdoc with Alan Warren at the LMB looking at the ribosomal defect that gives rise to Shwachman Diamond Syndrome, a growth defect disorder that carries a strong leukaemia predisposition.

He joined the ECRC in Jan 2013 as a Chancellor's Fellow.
