CPD for Teachers

These sessions are for teachers from local state secondary schools who give advice and guidance to pupils applying to university through UCAS. They are completely FREE to attend and as many staff from your school as you want can come along.

We understand that school teachers provide a crucial role in helping pupils in many aspects of their UCAS applications - from research to appropriate school course choice, to personal statements and decision-making. Our CPD sessions for teachers run over two sessions:

Session 1: Date TBC

This session covers:

- effective school course choice to keep options open and fill any gaps

- effective course choice research - things to ensure your pupils consider

- sensible back-up options to ensure a realistic "insurance" choice

- how to give the best advice to your pupils about their Personal Statements - what are the unis really looking for?

Session 2: FDate TBC

This session covers:

- what the universities are expecting from you as a referee

- dos and don'ts

- how the reference works alongside the personal statement

- how unis look at context and extenuating circumstances in admissions

Each session takes place at the University of Edinburgh's central George Square campus and are open to teachers from state schools in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife, Borders, Forth Valley, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire and Glasgow City. If you are interested in attending and are a teacher from a school in a different area, there may still be space for you to attend: contact Lesley Stokes on the email / phone number below to check.

To register to attend, please email wpteam@ed.ac.uk stating your name and school - or call 0131 651 1755. Full details will be emailed a week before each session.
