Physical access to libraries

Many of our library sites are physically accessible by disabled users. Where we have identified access issues we are undertaking works to ensure access is being progressively improved wherever possible.

University policy

The University’s policy on physical access can be found on the Estates and Buildings website.

University policy on physical access

The University is in the process of compiling information on the accessibility of all its buildings. The information recorded includes access arrangements, disabled parking and accessible toilet facilities . Whilst every effort has been made to ensure these Estates and Buildings access and facilities guides are regularly reviewed and updated, we would encourage visitors to the building to contact the staff at individual sites to confirm your requirements. A list of the reports complied so far can be found at:

Building access guides

Further information on the accessibility of individual site libraries is detailed below

Where library sites are currently not accessible, library staff will be more than willing to arrange alternative provision such as sending books to an alternative accessible location and/or to assist you as necessary.

Individual libraries

All our library helpdesks have induction loops installed.

For information on the access of each library please follow the link below to get specific information for each site.

Emergency building evacuation

All university buildings will have an evacuation plan for emergency situations such as fire. These plans include specific instructions on the evacuation of disabled people.

Notices are posted in the libraries advising disabled users how to evacuate the building.

If you require assistance to evacuate the building in an emergency, please contact the service desk for more information on the individual libraries procedures, and to make any special arrangements.

If you are a student who requires assistance to evacuate the building in an emergency then you should contact the Student Disability Service in order that they can contact your School and request they create for you a Personal Escape and Evacuation Plan (PEEP). If you are a member of staff you should contact your line manager to arrange a PEEP.
