Academic matters

An exchange period is an integral part of your degree programme and credit gained whilst on exchange counts towards your Edinburgh degree. Learn more about selecting the right courses, credit systems in other countries and transcripts.

Pre-departure sessions

Compulsory pre-departure information sessions for outgoing exchange and traineeship students take place during April and May.

All pre-departure documents are downloadable from your Mobility-Online workflow.

Student Exchanges Handbook

All outgoing students on exchange should receive or request a Student Exchanges Handbook.

Accommodation

Housing arrangements vary from institution to institution. Your accommodation is your responsibility so try to make your arrangements early to avoid stress on arrival.

Linguistic support

Opportunities to learn a language or improve your language skills before and during your exchange.

Insurance

It’s essential that you have appropriate insurance for your time overseas - don’t leave home without it!

Visas

Students going on International Exchanges may need an 'Exchange Student' visa.

Health and safety

While there is always some inherent risk with any kind of travel, there are a number of steps that you can take to help you keep healthy and safe.
