Head of Education: Rowena Arshad
Dr Rowena Arshad had been appointed Head of Moray House School of Education.
Dr Arshad began her career in the private sector, working in business and banking.
She then moved into community and youth work, which flourished into a career in education. During this time her passion for equality issues grew.
Dr Arshad is a champion for equality and multiculturalism.
In 1988 she became Director of the Multicultural Education Centre with Edinburgh City Council before joining Moray House.
She convenes the University of Edinburgh’s Race Equality Action Group and co-directs the Centre for Education for Racial Equality in Scotland.
She was made OBE in 2001 for services to race equality in Scotland.
She is the first minority ethnic person to be appointed Head of School for Education.
We are incredibly lucky to be part of a world-leading University, while still retaining the Moray House School of Education’s identity and legacy as a leading light in education.
