Appointment: Theresa Merrick
Theresa Merrick has been appointed as the University’s next Director of Communications and Marketing.
Theresa joins the University having spent the past four years as Director of External Relations at the University of Aberdeen, and will take up her position in the University Secretary’s Group on 4 June 2018.
The Director of Communications and Marketing is a senior strategic role, responsible for shaping and delivering a portfolio of high quality, strategic and proactive communications and marketing activity for the University.
The Director will work in close partnership with the Principal and Senior Vice-Principal to enhance public awareness of the contribution that staff, students and the University make to society.
They will also manage and further the University’s local and global reputation and impact through its communications and marketing activities worldwide, lead an effective public affairs function, and engage purposefully and innovatively with the external and internal communities that the University serves.

Theresa is an experienced senior leader in higher education communications, marketing, public affairs and public engagement with fifteen years’ experience in three Scottish universities.
Following four years at Glasgow Caledonian University as Director of Marketing and Public Relations, she spent seven years at Heriot-Watt University, firstly as Director of Corporate Communications and latterly as Director of External Affairs.
Theresa is a trustee of ENABLE Scotland, Scotland’s largest charity for people with learning disabilities.
She holds a MA in Hispanic Studies and Psychology and MBA from the University of Glasgow.
