Coronavirus (Covid-19) updates for staff and students

Latest update (20 January):

On Friday 8 January, the Scottish Government announced that university students will be taught online throughout January and February.

In line with Scottish Government guidance, UG and PGT students should not return to their term-time accommodation until such time as on-campus teaching resumes, other than in specific special circumstances.

We have emailed all students and have published further information below about what these new restrictions will mean.

Further updates will be published on this page as soon as possible.

Asymptomatic testing

Booking is now open for on-campus asymptomatic Covid-19 testing that will be available to students returning to Edinburgh in Semester 2. Testing will be offered from Thursday 7 January to Friday 12 February 2021. See Asymptomatic testing in Semester 2

Active cases

We have a total of 19 active cases reported to us by our students and staff. Active cases are defined as those who have reported to us that they have tested positive for Coronavirus and who are currently within their self-isolation period. We continue to work with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection team to ensure that these students and staff, and those around them, are provided with the information and support they need.

Advice and support

We are asking students to be vigilant regarding any Covid-19 symptoms and for all students to follow guidance as appropriate. We are continuing to monitor the situation, keeping our students and staff informed as appropriate, and following all Scottish Government guidance. We are providing care and support to those self-isolating both in University-owned and private accommodation.
