Voting for 2012 Rectorial Elections opens

Voting has opened for staff and students to elect a new University Rector.

The two candidates running in the Rectorial Election are MSP George Foulkes and journalist Iain Macwhirter.

The election marks 150 years since William Gladstone first took up post of Rector at the University.

The role was established by an 1858 Act of Parliament. The Rector chairs the University Court, the Governing body of the University, and is elected every three years.

The Rector to be elected will be the 50th person to hold the post. The current Rector is former Green MSP Mark Ballard.
