A new competition will give one student the chance to work with top US design brand Michael Kors in New York next year.
As part of this collaboration between Edinburgh College of Art and the brand, students studying fashion design will vie for an internship with fashion designer Michael Kors.
To win, the students must create bags or luggage, all inspired by the Michael Kors brand. The accessories will be completed for competition by October 28.
The best collections will then be presented to Nicola Glass in the US, head of accessories and college alumni, before the winner is selected.
They will spend two weeks next semester working in the Michael Kors studio and workshop in New York.
Industry collaboration is vital to our students’ academic experience, and the lucky winner will gain first hand experience of the inner-workings of a major international design brand.
Michael Kors launched his first women’s wear collection in 1981 before going on to become the creative director of French fashion house Celine. He left in 2003 to further develop his own brand.
Celebrities that have worn his designs include Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lopez and Rachel McAdams. Joan Allen and Jennifer Garner wore Kors designed gowns at the 2000 and 2006 Oscars respectively.
We are excited and delighted to be working collaboratively with Michael Kors New York. We anticipate that this will be the start of a long standing creative relationship with the brand.
