Shanghai fashion takes centre stage
Cutting-edge designs from Chinese fashion graduates will be showcased in catwalk events at a historic venue during this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The next generation of talent from the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF) have taken classic Chinese silhouettes, fabrics and colour and given them a modern twist.

University of Edinburgh’s Playfair Library
The graduates’ designs, which highlight their technical craft and environmental concerns, will be previewed in the Playfair Library at the University of Edinburgh.
The fashion showcase – From Shanghai with Love – is a collaboration between Donghua University and the Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh.
Colourful streetwear inspired by the Peking Opera, modern denim accessories and genderless sportswear will feature in the slick catwalk show.
The changing styles of children and their parents over the past 100 years will also be on exhibited as part of the show.
The display of more than 40 garments highlights the shift from traditional dress from the late Qing Dynasty in the early 20th century to the Western influences of the modern day.
In 2014, the University of Edinburgh and Donghua University launched SCF to give Shanghai-based fashion students the opportunity to study at Edinburgh College of Art for the final two years of their programme.
