Winter graduations

Our winter graduation ceremonies take place between Monday 27 November and Friday 1 December 2017.

Children’s illustrator and author Mairi Hedderwick, Tate Modern Director Frances Morris and Refugee Council Chief Executive Maurice Wren are among those receiving honorary awards .

Also being honoured are two Edinburgh environmental sciences undergraduates who have been using their technical skills to provide a lifeline for refugees.

Second-year students Alexandros Angelopoulos and Sam Kellerhal have created solar-powered mobile phone charging units for refugees living in camps in Greece. Each will be awarded a Principal's Medal for their contribution to the community.

Ms Mairi Hedderwick

Ms Mairi Hedderwick, illustrator and author, will be awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor honoris causa on Monday 27 November 2017.

Ms Frances Morris

Ms Frances Morris, Director, Tate Modern; Trustee, Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh will receive a Doctor honoris causa on Tuesday 28 November 2017.

Mr Maurice Wren

Mr Maurice Wren, Chief Executive Officer, Refugee Council UK will be awarded a Doctor honoris causa on Tuesday 28 November 2017.

Professor Joni Lovenduski

Professor Joni LovenduskiProfessor Emeritus in Political Science, Birkbeck College, London will receive a Doctor of Science in Social Science on Tuesday 28 November 2017.

Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston

Eleanor Sharpston, Advocate General at the European Court of Justice, Luxembourg, will be awarded a Doctor of Laws on Wednesday 29 November 2017.

Ms Louise Livingstone Martin

Ms Louise Livingstone Martin, CBEChair of SportsScotland and President of Commonwealth Games Federation, will receive a Doctor honoris causa on Wednesday 29 November 2017.

Professor James Hough

Professor James Hough, Research Professor in Natural Philosophy, University of Glasgow will be awarded a Doctor of Science on Thursday 30 November 2017.

Mr Alan Kay

Mr Alan Kay, President of the Viewpoints Research Institute, USA, will receive a Doctor of ScienceThursday 30 November 2017.

Mr Alexandros Angelopoulos and Mr Sam Kellerhalls will each be awarded a Principal's Medal for contribution to the community on Thursday 30 November 2017.

Mr Angus Donald Mackintosh MacDonald

Mr Angus Donald Mackintosh MacDonald, retired chartered accountant will be awarded a Doctor honoris causa on Friday 1 December 2017.

AXA Research Fund

AXA PPP Healthcare will receive the distinction of University Benefactor on Friday 1 December 2017.

Professor Aziz Sheikh

Professor Aziz Sheikh, Chair of Primary Care Research and Development will be awarded a Principal's Medal Winner for Exceptional Service on Friday 1 December 2017.
