Humanities hub is hive of activity
An award-winning university building has opened its doors to students and staff.
The refurbishment of 50 George Square provides a new home for the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.
The building - which was commended in the Civic Trust Awards and Scottish Design Awards - was opened recently by HRH Princess Royal, who is also the University Chancellor.
Also attending the opening ceremony was Dr Shah Rukh Khan, one of Bollywood’s most popular stars. He had earlier received an honorary degree from the Princess Royal.
Learning and teaching
We are very proud of our new location and the community that has already grown strong within it. It is a wonderful new learning and teaching environment.
The refurbished and extended building provides world class facilities for more than 380 research and teaching staff. Nearly 2,000 undergraduates and 450 postgraduates use its facilities.
The new building houses English Literature, European Languages and Cultures, Celtic and Scottish Studies and Asian Studies as well as the LLC Graduate School.
Features include bespoke study suites, a film screening room and a project room to showcase the School’s expertise in research and creative practice.
