Big screen alliance

The University is to strengthen its ties with the film industry by forming a new partnership with the Centre for the Moving Image.

It is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with CMI - which incorporates the Edinburgh International Film Festival and Filmhouse - that underlines a commitment to greater joint working.

The new agreement will be celebrated at an event in the University’s Playfair Library ahead of the opening of the Edinburgh International Film Festival on17 June.

The Memorandum seeks to extend the intellectual and artistic reach of both organisations through collaborations involving programming, research and outreach initiatives.

Flourishing relationship

The University has enjoyed a flourishing relationship with the Centre for the Moving Image since it was founded in 2010, building on its longstanding relationships with Edinburgh Filmhouse and the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Academics are regularly involved in public events at Edinburgh Filmhouse and the Edinburgh International Film Festival - curating specialised programmes and hosting public events.

Work by animation and film students will also showcased during the Film Festival, while other students will curate a programme of short films as part of their course.
