Students create rival to Uber

University students have created a taxi booking phone app that they hope will rival Uber and Lyft.

The app, YourTaximeter, is designed to meet the needs of taxi operators and their customers.

Customers can book a taxi by inputting their requirements and being directed to an available taxi service.

Passengers can pay using the app or can pay their driver.

An additional ‘Take Me Home’ app feature lets passengers arrange their journey home in two clicks.

Customer benefits

Students behind the software say it offers advantages to rival apps such as Uber, by working only with registered taxi firms.

This offers customers the assurance of a reputable driver and vehicle, while ensuring that registered taxi firms are not driven out by unlicensed competitors.

The YourTaximeter team, which comprises students with technology and business expertise, is highlighting the app’s latest features at an event in Old College.

With our software, any licensed taxi company, anywhere in the UK, can compete with the likes of Uber. Our team may be just a few people, but soon, with enough taxi companies on board, we hope to create something huge.
