Terms and conditions - Events app scavenger hunts

THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH’S EVENTS APP SCAVENGER HUNTS TERMS AND CONDITIONS 

1. Terms and Conditions – the University of Edinburgh’s Events App Scavenger Hunts. By entering this competition, entrants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. 

2. This competition is promoted and administered by the University of Edinburgh’s Pre-Arrival and Induction Team, Careers Service, Student Experiences Services, 3^rd Floor, Main Library, George Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9LJ 

3. The competition will commence on Monday 13^th January 2025 and will run until 23:59 BST on Friday 24^th January 2025. Entries made after this time will not be counted.  

4. To participate in this competition, you must download the University of Edinburgh Events app and play entirely within the ‘Welcome Events 2024-2025 guide. The scavenger hunt games will be in the left-hand menu with clear instructions on how to take part in either game: 

You will be given a clue or instructions and there will be a QR code available to scan when you have found the right answer. Each scanned QR code reveals part of a phrase. Once you have revealed all parts of the code, you will be prompted to enter your details in a form with the complete phrase. The form goes directly to Guidebook and University of Edinburgh staff can see the list of people who have participated. Entries that do not include the full phrase will not be counted. Entries that do not include their full name and a correct student email address will not be counted. Entrants can only submit their phrase once per game, entrants can play both games, but can only win one prize.  

5. There will be one winner per game – the person who has submitted the phrase first. The time of each entry is recorded by Guidebook available to University of Edinburgh staff. There will additionally be five runner-up winners chosen randomly by University of Edinburgh staff. All winners, for both games will be chosen and contacted within 2 weeks of the closure of the competition. 

6. The winner of Game 1: QR Quest - Find Your Student Services will receive a £50.00 voucher for the University of Edinburgh Gift Shop. The University of Edinburgh - Clothing, Accessories & Gifts – The University of Edinburgh Gift Shop This can be redeemed in-person or online.  

The winner of Game 2: Seek and Scan - Central Campus Fun Hunt will receive a £50.00 voucher for the University cafes. This can only be redeemable in-person and in selected cafes on University campus. University Cafes and Catering | University Cafes and Catering  

The 5 randomly selected runner-up winners of Game 1: QR Quest - Find Your Student Services will receive a £20.00 voucher 

The 5 randomly selected runner-up winners of Game 2: Seek and Scan - Central Campus Fun Hunt will receive a £20.00 voucher 

If the same person wins both games (fastest at completing both games), they will win the £50.00 gift voucher for the University of Edinburgh Gift Shop. The second-fastest person of Game 2 will win the £50.00 gift voucher for the University Cafes.  

7. The competition is open to current students of the University of Edinburgh only. Entries provided by individuals who are not current students of the University of Edinburgh will not be counted. On submitting the phrase, the person is required to provide their student email address to confirm they are a University of Edinburgh student. If the winner is unable to provide their student email address, they will be disqualified from the competition and another winner will be drawn in accordance with clause 6. 

8. The winner will not be announced publicly on any University of Edinburgh’s communications channels. 

9. Further details will be provided to all winners by the University of Edinburgh as to how to claim the prize. The winner must respond within 48 hours of being announced as the winner. After this time the University of Edinburgh reserves the right to choose an alternate winner. 

10. No purchase is necessary to enter the competition; however, you will need an internet connection and access to the Events App. No refund may be claimed for expenses incurred in participating in this competition, including in relation to the use of the internet. 

11. We reserve the right to exclude any entries which we believe to be inappropriate, fraudulent or based on misconduct. 

12. The prize is non-transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for any cash alternatives.
