Lukas Tamayo Orrego

Born & raised | Colombia and Spain |
Education & previous employment | After completing my medical degree in Colombia (University of Caldas), I worked for two years doing research in clinical neurophysiology. Then I moved to Canada to do my PhD in Neuroscience at McGill University. |
Scientific interests | I have studied pediatric brain tumor formation (medulloblastoma) using mouse models of this disease. My primary interest was to understand tumor initiation and progression mechanisms, with a special focus on cell senescence and DNA replication. In Andrew Jackson lab, I am addressing the developmental origins of specific forms of microcephalic dwarfism, disorders characterised by growth failure. |
Outside interests | I am a big fan of science fiction books. I also like swimming and running. And I also love art museums. |
