Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track (ECAT)

Techniques Carousel 2018

The annual lab techniques carousel takes places in January

The 2017 cohort undertook their lab training from Monday 22 – Friday 26 January at the Queen’s Medical Research Institute with expert tuition from Frances Collins (MRC Centre for Inflammation Research), Karen French  (BHF centre for Cardiovascular Science) and Forbes Howie (Specialist Assay Service).

This week-long intensive training course offers fellows an invaluable opportunity to get back into the lab.  It covers topics such as RNA analysis, RNA extraction and quantification as well as cell culture, protein analysis and western blot, providing fellows with some of the important lab skills they will need during their PhD.

Here’s the group ‘having fun’ in the lab! Next they’ll be putting what they have learned into practice during their mini-projects in April/May.
