UNCOVER Awarded Principal's Teaching Award Scheme (PTAS) Grant

Find out more about how the grant is funding UNCOVER's innovative working model.

UNCOVER were delighted to be awarded a Principal’s Teaching Award Scheme (PTAS) grant at the end of 2020. The grant application followed an initial phase of qualitative research on staff and student experience, carried out by Dr Neneh Rowa-Dewar during the early months of UNCOVER.

The funding will now go towards developing UNCOVER’s innovative working model, with a particular emphasis on creating opportunities for student learning, development and leadership through participation in UNCOVER.

Several of our experienced student and graduate members have already stepped into mentorship roles, supporting others with extended projects and dissertations, and this is something we are keen to build on, especially as we are joined by new students this semester.

UNCOVER’s Thursday meetings and occasional workshops are open to everyone, and offer some great opportunities for learning and skills development. There are also opportunities for students who are achieving good course marks, and have experience or training in systematic reviews, to get involved in UNCOVER’s review teams.

Being involved with an UNCOVER review is an opportunity to get practical experience of addressing complex real-world questions – which can be highly-rewarding, but also rigorous and demanding – and we are keen to make sure that we involve students in ways that are constructive and beneficial, and add value to the overall learning experience.

Our PTAS grant, together with a Student Forum launched this month, will enable us to keep developing this important aspect of our work. If you are interested in finding out more about UNCOVER, please contact our Project Manager, Emilie McSwiggan, on v1emcswi@exseed.ed.ac.uk.
