April 2022: Careers Beyond Academia - Dr Ruby Osborn

Ruby finished her PhD in colorectal cancer risk genes at the University of Edinburgh’s Institute of Genetics and Cancer in 2018. During her PhD she participated in a range of science communication and public engagement events. In spring 2019 she spent eight weeks in Cambridge for a short internship at The Naked Scientists science podcast and radio show, producing radio segments and written pieces about the latest science news.

In July 2019 Ruby joined Weston Park Cancer Charity as Grant Officer, a post which was regraded to Grant Manager in February 2021. Her role includes coordinating the grant application process, managing reporting and finance for existing grants, working closely with the fundraising and marketing team to publicise the projects being carried out using the charity’s funding, and keeping the staff as a whole updated on the grants programme.
