May 2022: Careers Beyond Academia - Dr Lena Lorenz

Lena completed her PhD investigating host-parasite interactions in the laboratory at Imperial College London in 2010. She then moved to Tanzania to work on more operational malaria and mosquito control options. She was a post-doctoral research fellow (2011-16) and assistant professor (2016-18) at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, coordinating a large-scale mosquito net durability project in Tanzania. She taught MSc and PhD students in study design, statistical analysis and (biological) control of disease vectors. 

In July 2018, Lena joined the CMVM Research Office as Research Impact Officer. She supported the College REF 2021 submission by developing impact case studies. In Dec 2021, Lena's role changed to Senior Strategic Research Coordinator, where she is now responsible for the development and implementation of a range of strategically important research support activities. She is currently developing a research impact strategy, coordinating research ethics and supporting international research within CMVM.
