College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine

Online distance learning portfolio grows

As demand for specialist postgraduate degrees offered by online distance learning continues to grow, the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine's portfolio of programmes is also growing for September 2015 intake, with new degrees in Anatomical Sciences, Public Health, Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Ophthalmology.

Anatomical Sciences and Public Health amongst new online distance learning programmes

The College now offers 30 different online distance learning postgraduate programmes, providing flexible part-time learning for professionals working in the fields of medicine, biomedical science, healthcare and veterinary medicine.

New programmes for 2015 entry

Building on our successful and popular on-campus Master of Public Health, we now offer an MPH award by online learning. The programme is run by the Centre for Population Health Sciences - an interdisciplinary research hub which draws together researchers, clinicians and practitioners from public health, primary care and biomedical and social sciences.

Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases is aimed at junior doctors currently undergoing, or about to undertake, specialty training in an infection discipline. This online programme is aligned with JRCPTB and RCPath training in infection disciplines.

Anatomical Sciences is designed to introduce students to all aspects of human anatomy. It is suitable those working in professions allied to medicine who wish to expand their existing knowledge of human anatomy, and might also appeal to those with a science degree who work in fitness professions and want to gain a better understanding of the human body.

Clinical Ophthalmology is jointly offered by the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and has been developed with the support of NHS Education for Scotland (NES). The ChM is designed to support advanced ophthalmology trainees in the UK and internationally through a curriculum which recognises their subspecialist ophthalmic interests in preparation for exit examination and hospital-based practice.

Online learning wherever you are in the world

Our online learning technology is fully interactive, award-winning and enables students to communicate with our highly qualified teaching staff from the comfort of their own home or workplace. Online students not only have remote access to Edinburgh’s excellent resources, but also become part of a supportive online community, bringing together students and tutors from around the world.
