Cutting Edge Technology revealed at Professor Gordon Findlater's Inaugural Lecture

On the 23rd November 2015, a huge audience attended Professor of Translational Anatomy Gordon Findlater's Inaugural Lecture, "Anatomy Matters? Anatomy Matters!"

Historic setting

In the historic and steeply tiered Anatomy Lecture Theatre, a tightly packed audience which included Edinburgh University Alumni, members of the public and school children were treated to a compelling story.

Humble beginnings

Gordon spoke about his humble beginnings, culminating in a successful career in Anatomy in Edinburgh and his valuble contributions to exciting new developments in the field of anatomical teaching and public engagement using ground-breaking technologies.

Cutting-edge technology

The lecture culminated in a moment of excitement as Edinburgh University's Anatomage Table was wheeled into the centre of the Anatomy Lecture Theatre, to the area where dissections historically occurred. The audience then viewed cutting edge technology in action as the digital cadaver was manipulated to show the human body at several levels of dissection.

The Anatomage Table versus real humans

Gordon concluded that while the possibilities raised by technology were very exciting, it couldn't replace the endless variation discovered during the dissection of real human bodies.
