It’s Time For ‘T’ – the importance of testosterone for lifelong male health

Join us for the second lecture of the 2015-2016 Let's Talk About Health series; 'It’s Time For ‘T’ – the importance of testosterone for lifelong male health'. The University of Edinburgh's Doctor Rod Mitchell, Wellcome Trust Clinical Fellow and Professor Lee Smith, Chair of Genetic Endocrinology will explain just how essential the hormone testosterone is for male health and wellbeing.

Understanding male reproductive health

Development of the male reproductive system, secondary sexual characteristics and male fertility all depend on testosterone but combined genetic and environmental influences can make a man more likely to experience a reproductive health disorder. These conditions can arise from birth or become apparent later in life.

Dr Mitchell and Professor Smith will discuss evidence implicating a number of environmental chemicals and pharmaceuticals in the development of disorders as well as how the science behind the production and action of testosterone might be used to develop strategies to improve male health.
