College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine

New postgraduate programmes

The College is recruiting to seven new postgraduate programmes for 2012-13, expanding its already extensive portfolio of taught Masters, Diplomas and Certificates to 39 programmes.

The new programmes include two new online ChM qualifications for surgeons in urology, and trauma and orthopaedics; an online Masters for primary dental care clinicians; an online MVetSci in conservation medicine for vets; an online MSc/Dip/Cert in animal welfare, ethics and law; a 12-month online Certificate in global health challenges; and a new on-campus programme in science communication and public engagement, which features practical work placements.

Online distance learning

The College is proud to offer 21 flexible online distance learning programmes. With 7 years’ experience running online Masters, we have a wealth of expertise in delivering high-quality postgraduate education through this medium. Our online students become part of a supportive online community, bringing together students and tutors from all over the world.

Our MSc in Surgical Sciences won the Gold Award for The Best Online or Distance Learning Programme at the 2010 e-Learning Awards in London. The team who run this successful programme are now also delivering the new ChM programmes in Urology, and Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Much like the surgical qualifications, the new MSc in Primary Dental Care is constructed to suit busy practitioners, and in addition to online study offers an annual summer school to support the clinical skills teaching.

The new MVetSci in Conservation Medicine is a specialist qualification for vets who wish to learn more about this emerging discipline. The MSc/Dip/Cert in International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law is aimed at science graduates worldwide, in particular those from veterinary, zoology or biology degrees.

On-campus Masters

Our new on-campus MSc in Science Communication and Public Engagement not only allow students to spend a concentrated year of study in Edinburgh but offers them placement opportunities as well as featuring regular external speakers who are active in public engagement to provide insight into the range and variety of opportunities in this area.

The six new online distance learning programmes reflect the demand amongst working professionals for a flexible and convenient study option at postgraduate level. The University is investing heavily in supporting online study - an increasingly popular choice amongst those who wish to enhance their career while holding down personal and professional commitments. Those looking for a more traditional on-campus Masters experience will benefit from the opportunity to gain invaluable practical experience in industry – giving graduates an edge in the competitive employment market.
