One in 500 people in Scotland suffer from Multiple Sclerosis, the highest prevalence of any country in the world; in South East Scotland alone over 1600 people suffer from this debilitating disease. Affecting the myelin sheath that surrounds our nerves MS results in a variety of symptoms, both physical and mental, and the causes are still unclear.

This Bar de Neuroscience takes place during Brain Awarenesss Week and will consist of short talks followed by an informal discussion with the audience about MS and current research. The University of Edinburgh produces world-leading research at both the Edinburgh Centre for MS Research and the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, so this is your opportunity to talk to the researchers involved.

The event will take place in the Elephant House Café, which is well known for its links to the Harry Potter novels and their author JK Rowling who, following the death of her mother from MS, has been a dedicated supporter of MS research at the University and more globally.
